Choosing the right Stethoscope for you
When purchasing a stethoscope take some time to determine what your current and future needs will be. Remember that a quality stethoscope will last you a lifetime. Littmann is the industry standard in stethoscopes for the medical and health care professions. A performance scale was developed by Littmann ranging from 1-10 to help you determine the performance of each model. Use the following table to compare the different features of the different Littmann models.

Electronic Series     (Performance rating: 10+)
The Littmann electronic models are the premium models in the Littmann line of stethoscopes. They possess exceptional sound quality, state-of-the-art sound sensors, proprietary Ambient Noise Reduction (ANR) technology that reduces, on average, 85 percent of unwanted background noise, frictional noise reduction technology and they amplify sounds up to 24 times to hear faint sounds you might otherwise miss. Cardiology Series     (Performance Rating: 10)
The Cardiology series of stethoscopes is used for both adult and pediatric cardiology. They are high performance stethoscopes that have tunable diaphragms and dual lumen designs. Classic II Series     (Performance Rating: 7-8)
The Classic II series is the most popular series that are the industry standard. They are used in general practices and for physical assessment and diagnosis. If you perform physical exams or will do so in the future, this is an excellent choice for you. There are also adult, pediatric and infant models in this series. Select     (Performance Rating: 6)
The Select has the main application of limited physical assessment and taking blood pressure. It has a performance rating of 6.

All of these models have a tunable diaphragm that offers enhanced acoustics. versatility and time-saving convenience. Switching from bell and diaphragm mode is easy a simple, a pressure change on the chestpiece is all that is needed to hear both high-frequency and low-frequency sounds. Light contact with the chestpiece allows you to hear low-frequency sounds. When pressure is exerted on the chestpiece high-frequency sounds are emphasized. You no longer have to turn the chestpiece over. Most of the Littmann chestpieces are low profile and easily slip under a blood pressure cuff.

Lightweight II     (Performance Rating: 6)

This general-purpose, entry-level stethoscope is an excellent, affordable choice for basic blood-pressure and limited physical assessment.
